Title: Remembering the Egg
Course: Digital Photography
Artists: Alyssa Stults and Claire Sysko
Teacher: Mrs. Gollan
Subject Matter: Eggs
Medium: Digital Photography
Project Goal: learning about light placement and what shadows are made depending on the location of the light
Personal Review/Evaluation and Critique: In this project, there is a lot of negative (black) space. This is because the egg is small and right in the center of my pictures. Also, there is value shown in this project through shadows. The lines in this project are erratic. This is because the outline of the eggs is not straight. Because the eggs in the pictures are centered, I see balance in these pictures. I made sure to put my best effort into keeping the picture as proportional as I could. To do these, I had to keep about the same amount of space on top of and below the egg. For this project, I believe it looks best to go against the rule of thirds so that the different shadows I was trying to get from my different light placements can be seen. I liked that I could play around with the light and put it in different spots without having set requirements to follow. I think that I could improve by moving my camera down a little bit so that it is more even with the table and egg. A strength of this project was that I had my partner Claire to help me decide where to place the light. Having another set of eyes and another creative mind helped me capture unique shadows. I had a hard time focusing on the egg instead of the shadow. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to take the egg pictures. I learned that even simple, everyday objects can be used to make a beautiful shadow and piece of art. I learned how to better use the aperture settings on my camera. If I were to do this project again, I probably would have cleaned the table my egg was placed on before taking my pictures along with hiding the putty I used to hold my egg down in place better. I enjoyed this project and had a fun time experimenting with the light and the shadows it made.
