Title: Natural and Studio Lighting Photos
Course: Digital Photography
Artist: Alyssa Stults
Teacher: Mrs. Gollan
Subject Matter: Amanda Torres with some items to enhance her portraits
Medium: Digital Photography
Project Goal: how to take portraits
Personal Review/Evaluation and Critique: One element that makes this project great is the colors involved. Each photo has quite a bit of color in it. Amanda's bright, intense shirt along with the globe/flower she is holding really makes the picture brighter and pop more. There are a lot more vertical lines in the natural lighting photos I took of Amanda. The globe in the studio lighting pictures is more of an erratic line because of its curve. The brick background is an example of these vertical lines. Both the brick background the the flower pen Amanda is holding in the pictures have a nice texture to them. These elements make the pictures more interesting making my natural and studio lighting project look a lot better. Two principles of design used in these pictures are proportion and pattern. The background of these pictures fit into the pattern portion of principles. The brick pattern in the natural lighting pictures makes a nice background for Amanda. This element makes the picture look nice and centered and keep the focus on the subject rather than distracting because of a crazy background. The brick especially in these pictures keeps the pictures looking proportional. This is because the lines in the background are straight. I enjoyed having fun with this project. I found that it was not too hard to change the settings and the expectations of this project were not too hard to meet. I did not like that it was a drag to get my partner to get the pictures at first and how complicated it was to get the lights in the just right position. I need to improve on my ability to adjust the settings and be more particular how the pictures look. One strength of this project is the pretty good lighting of the studio lighting pictures. A weakness of the lack of light in my natural lighting pictures. While I was taking my pictures of Amanda, I learned how to adjust my camera's settings a little to make my picture better. If I was doing this project over, I would have taken more time trying to get better pictures and looked them over. I might have even taken pictures multiple days and examined the quality of them.
