TITLE: Self Portrait COURSE: Design ARTIST: Alyssa Stults TEACHER: Mrs. McDonald SUBJECT MATTER: Self Portrait MEDIUM: Graphite Pencil PROJECT GOAL: The goal of this project was to draw an improved self portrait from the one I did at the beginning of the semester when I started DESIGN. PERSONAL REVIEW I think that my self portrait is so much better than it was before. I liked that drawing my self portrait was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. I think that drawing my hair was a strength of mine. I would say that drawing my mouth was a weaknesses of mine.During my self portrait drawing, there were a few learning moments.Learning how to draw the nose and my eyes were definite learning moments. I would have taken more time if I would have had any more. My mouth needed more work. DESCRIPTIVE WRITING REFLECTION Elements: In my self portrait, I used reflections in my eyes, highlights on my cheeks, shading on my outer cheeks, and a shadow on my neck. My school picture showed that I had a lot of shading to do so that my self portrait looked as realistic as it could be. There are a lot of organic lines in my face such as my mouth, nose and eyes. They all use curvy lines to create the shape. My head/face is a geometric shape because it is a circle. The back ground of my portrait is my negative space and my face and shirt are positive space. Principles There are a variety of shapes on my face. One of my eyes is smaller than my other eye because of the tilt of my face. Also, there are a variety of sizes of teeth in my mouth. My eyes create balance on my face with their alignment. The darkness of my hair creates a 'POP'. My face really stands out against my hair. Compare and Contrast In my first self portrait, I had not idea what I was doing or how to draw any part of my face. There are too many lines without shading in my first portrait. In my second portrait, I my eyes are more centered on my face. I have so much shading on my face in my second portrait and it looks so much more realistic. The blending on my hair is so much better in my second one. I am so happy that my second portrait turned out better than my first. I would change my mouth and eyes if I could. They don't look so great. I used to think that drawing a self portrait was going to be so hard, but now I think that it just takes a little bit of effort and it's not that hard. |
