Title: GIMP Portraits with Makeup
Course: Digital Photography
Artist: Alyssa Stults
Teacher: Mrs. Gollan
Subject Matter: Amanda Torres with GIMP makeup
Medium: Digital Photography
Project Goal: How to use tools on GIMP
Personal Review/Evaluation and Critique: I think that the makeup in these pictures brings quite a bit of color. It brightens the mood of the pictures, especially the natural lighting one. In the background of the natural lighting makeup photo, there are vertical and horizontal lines making up the brick. These lines give a nice background behind Amanda. The space around Amanda is perfect for the use of a portrait. She, the subject, is centered and is balanced in these pictures. The backgrounds of these pictures both have a pattern to them. Because they both have a simple pattern to them, they serve as quality backgrounds. I liked experimenting with GIMP to put makeup on Amanda. It was fun and made taking the pictures more enjoyable. The lighting in both of my pictures could be improved greatly. If I had played with my settings a little more, my pictures could have had exponentially greater lighting. A strength of this project was that I knew GIMP well enough to know that I would need to zoom in on Amanda to make the makeup smaller when I zoomed out. A weakness was that I am not that great of an artist and I did not make Amanda's makeup the best it could have been. During this project, I learned how to use GIMP to edit my pictures and enhance them, even to a goofy extreme. If I was doing this project again, I would have tried to make her blush look more natural and more rosy. This project was fun because it did not require taking a ton more pictures. It was nice to use pictures we had already taken.
